resonant traces of the city: an archaeology of recorded action

The collection of sound pieces featured on this site return to historical moments and events in the life of Sydney. I collected them as part of series of projects with the ABC and the National Film and Sound Archive undertaken between 2007 and 2010. In these I was working with mobile platforms as a medium to tell stories about the historical development of Sydney’s inner city streets. A number of these sound walks and other features were released through the ABC Sydney Sidetracks project.

Today’s listener might chart a course through central Sydney, ‘visiting’ these moments in much the same way that one might visit a monument or landmark. They’re not, in the main, attached to visible landmarks. You might like to think of them as ‘sound marks’.
